Cutting Soap before Baseball!

Yesterday I had a rare weekday out of the office - it was awesome!  The
weather was gorgeous here in KC and I was able to get out and enjoy it.
But of course, I couldn't let any free time go by without making some soap.  I had to get home and get it cut before the baseball game got started - GO ROYALS!!    So, here is Good Juju and Smoke & Mirrors.

S&M (haha) is a very woodsy, masculine scent from BeScented.  It's a mysterious sexy fragrance that I hope gets richer as it cures.  Crafter's Choice Americana Red oxide is the base color.  I was going for the brick red with smoky blue swirl, but it's a bit pink right now.  I hope it darkens a little.
Good JuJu is a fragrance mash up that was created accidentally.  I usually like to try my fo's out in lotion to get an idea about the aroma before soaping.  So I had some "It's Karma, Baby" from BeScented and, although I liked it, it was too much patchouli for me.  I was in a hurry (shocker) and I wanted to sweeten it up some, so I grabbed the bottle of Loo Loo Shampoo from Mad Oils and splashed some in.  These two combined are unbelievably good together...I love it!  You get the earthy patchouli kick but with a fresh, clean spin.  It's so good, I've had several compliments from co-workers, so of course I wanted to try it in soap - so glad I did!  I also used goat's milk powder, so I hope the colors stay true...will see.  The powder doesn't seem to discolor as much as using liquid milk, which is why I prefer to use it.

This weekend I'm planning to make some more candles...because it's pumpkin season!  My go to pumpkin spice scent is from Brambleberry..
and I always sell out whether I use it in soy candles or soap.  In fact, people seem to love it year round.  It's rich, spicy but not super sweet - it's perfect!

Now I'm off to watch the rest of the ball game!  So exciting to have our home team doing so well...we love those boys in blue!

Balancing the Possibilities

Many soapers like myself aren't living the dream of operating a full time soap business.  We have other types of work and careers that must remain top priority to pay the bills and keep our families going.  Those of us who are taking a shot at soaping as a side business have to squeeze out the extra time for it in rather creative ways. Happy New Year!

Reorganized Supply Closet :) My oh my how the time flies - it's really been over two months since my last post..!  November and December had me hoppin with holiday craft and sales events, not to mention the entire Christmas season's activities.  And as usual, I was sick in bed for a few days, too.  I'm just now catching my breath and starting to dream up some new soap ideas.  Today has been the first quiet day I've had at home in weeks, full of coveted unstructured time.  After finally getting the Christmas tree and decorations put away, I started a much needed revamp of my soap supply closet to make this small space more functional. Tomorrow I start on the curing room...it's a bit of a disaster, but it feels sooo good to get things in order and start fresh for the upcoming year. Gearing up for Market Season

Eucalyptus Spearmint           It's finally feeling like spring...in typical Kansas/Missouri fashion, it was 80 degrees on Saturday and dropped to 35 by Sunday night! Nevertheless, the farmers market season is fast approaching - only two more weeks.  These babies are curing as we speak and smell out of this world.  I've still got to paint my metal display pieces and I should be good to go.  I have so many ideas in my head I can't seem to narrow them down to try in real life.  Last year was my first experience in the market venue and, while I got lots of compliments on my set up, I'd really like to increase my sales this year.         I've heard it said that you should design your market space just as you would in a store or boutique.  To me, I think simplicity is the way to go in a market setting.  My plan this year is to have one unwrapped bar of each scent displayed up front, and baskets with the packaged bars grouped together in the background, or maybe on
